NOS

Use this for vague or date-driven news requests when the user does not give a real topic. After calling this tool, show the widget and the tool's one-sentence content only. Do not summarize, interpret, or explain the articles unless the user explicitly asks for a summary. Call only this NOS tool for one user prompt; do not also call `search_articles`. Examples: - "latest news" - "most important news" - "anything happened two weeks ago?" - "what was in the news last week?" - "what happened around 2026-03-10?" Set `start_date` and `end_date` to match the requested period. Do not invent a specific topic query. Do not use this when the user gives a specific topic, person, event, or keyword. This tool returns the best recent cards for that period.

latest_articles

Use this when the user wants the 4 most relevant NOS items for a specific topic, person, event, or keyword. Returns articles, and also NOS liveblogs and livestreams when something on the topic is live or scheduled. After calling this tool, show the widget and the tool's one-sentence content only. Do not summarize, interpret, or explain the articles unless the user explicitly asks for a summary. Call only this NOS tool for one user prompt; do not also call `latest_articles`. You do NOT need to decide whether something is live. Leave `content_type` unset and the tool checks for a running liveblog or a scheduled stream on its own, and puts it first when it finds one. Set `content_type` only when the user was explicit about wanting to watch or follow something live, or asked when an event is on — see the parameter description. Keep the words that make the question specific. Both of these work: - "waarom zijn er zo veel boten in Amsterdam" - "veel boten Amsterdam Canal Parade" Put time expressions in `start_date`/`end_date`, not in the query text: "waarom zijn er zo veel boten in Amsterdam vandaag" becomes query="veel boten in Amsterdam" with start_date and end_date both set to today. Do not narrow the window further than the user asked for: the tool always fills the cards from the window, so too narrow a range returns unrelated articles. Leave both dates unset when the question names no period of its own. "Wat is het laatste nieuws over Trump?" asks about a topic, not about today: query="nieuws over Trump" with no dates. Restricting that to today hides the story that has been running all week. Do not reduce it to a bare topic, which drops the words that disambiguate: - "Amsterdam" (matches any Amsterdam news, including a fatal boat accident) - "stemming" (a vote in parliament, or the mood — both match) - "spits" (a striker, or rush-hour traffic) Do not use generic phrases in the query like: - "latest news" - "recent headlines" - "most important news" For generic recent or important news without a topic, use `latest_articles` instead. `start_date` and `end_date` control the date window for recency filtering. Returns exactly the top matching cards for display.
